Green Economy Education Manual

Visions | Technologies | Opportunities

In 2015, with the support of the BMUB and UBA, ECOMOVE developed a comprehensive educational manual tailored specifically to teachers, offering handouts, background information and films to help them effectively teach the topic of ‘Green Economy – Visions, Technologies, Opportunities’ in the classroom. At the same time, this manual provides ECOMOVE with ideas on how schools and sustainable companies can be brought together, particularly with regard to career opportunities and youth engagement.

Unfortunately, the usage licences have expired, which means that the educational manual can no longer be ordered. We apologise for any inconvenience.

The three modules of the training manual:

Film package: Green Economy

A total of six challenging films, ranging in length from five to 120 minutes, shed light on different aspects and specific implementation options in the economic, labour and educational sectors of the green economy. They are supplemented by educational materials and teaching aids for the respective school subjects.

Practice: Schools and sustainable businesses

Educational materials to bring (sustainable) businesses and schools closer together. This involved providing information on exemplary companies and their contact persons, as well as suggestions for integrating examples of best practice in business into the classroom.

Concepts: Film screenings and discussions at schools

In addition to the films and suggestions for preparation and follow-up work in class, the schools were provided with a pool of qualified speakers. The schools then organised the events themselves on this basis. ECOMOVE also organised a series of film and discussion events at schools throughout Germany. The results gathered here were incorporated into the development of the three modules.

Background

By ‘green economy’ we mean an economic system that positively links ecology and economy while ensuring a high quality of life for the population. This economic system promotes environmentally friendly growth, is socially responsible and respects ecological limits. The global trend of current economic activity, which is destroying the foundations of our prosperity in the long term, must be countered by a transformation process towards a ‘green economy’. Thanks to its great potential for technical and social innovation, Germany can take a leading role in this process in international competition.

The transition to a green economy has a profound impact on people’s daily lives, values and visions of the future. Last but not least, a new culture of conscious resource use and an awareness of personal responsibility must be created. This is largely a task for education.
