The project has initiated various artistic and creative projects to support participation and diversity in Lower Saxony. With the help of various creative forms of expression, the aim was to arouse curiosity about other cultures and promote the participation of all members of society with equal opportunities. To this end, creative workshops were held in various communities/cities in Lower Saxony in cooperation with local authorities, youth services, integration officers, refugee organisations, independent educational institutions, etc.
The groups’ musical pieces, short films and photo exhibitions were finally presented at a high-profile public event.
Workshops
Theatre and dance days at the Hoya Youth Centre
On 9 and 30 March, two theatre and dance workshops took place at the Hoya Youth Centre. The theatre and dance camp originally planned for the Easter holidays on Borkum could not take place due to the coronavirus restrictions in place. The workshops were led by Kevin Herbertz (theatre) and Bianca Eder (dance). The workshops involved a dance and theatre-based exploration of the participants’ own themes and realities of life. Another focus was on promoting expressiveness. The holiday programme offered the young people a long-awaited change of pace and an opportunity for creative expression in their everyday lives during the pandemic.

Rap project workshop in Hanover
In November and December 2020, the rap project for young people with and without a migration background was organised by the LIP Youth working group, which is part of the newly emerging Local Integration Plan 2.0. The plan aims to broaden the perspectives and increase the participation of young people in shaping life in the state capital of Hanover. With the support of trainer Modou Diedhiou, who has been promoting the participation of young people in social and cultural life in Hanover for many years, the young participants were introduced to the art of rapping or developed their existing rap skills.

Many wishes, one project – pottery together in Ganderkesee
In the municipality of Ganderkesee, six young people from different institutions used clay to create three-dimensional balloon reliefs (half-forms). Pieces of clay were attached to the balloons and the participants wrote their wishes for the future on the ceramic pieces. The wishes were set to music. In this way, the project encouraged young people from different backgrounds and social positions to exchange their visions of the future.
The approximately 40 balloon reliefs that were created were assembled into a complete work of art and mounted on a publicly accessible wall at the TREND Youth Culture Centre in the municipality of Ganderkesee. In June 2021, a closing event was finally held with all participants, their families and friends, representatives of the institutions involved, the public and the press. A sign on the wall indicates the project name, the sponsor and the person responsible.
Participants: 36 young people

Racism – Show your face
Workshop Oldenburg
Ten young people with different migration backgrounds took part in this workshop and discussed the topic of racism.
The one-day workshop focused on the questions ‘What do I understand by racism?’, ‘How can I deal with racism?’ and ‘What can I do about it?’
Together, they reflected on their personal experiences with racism and then developed statements that they had written themselves, which were accompanied by photographs.
All of the young people agreed that ‘We are showing our faces against racism’ (a quote from one participant).
Participants: 10 young people
