Climate change has become a topic of central importance in society. However, the imagery associated with it is limited: we are familiar with images of polar bears on ice floes, melting glaciers, and threatening storms and natural disasters. But do these images have the power to shape our behaviour? Do they trigger changes in our consumption patterns, lifestyles, or the structure of our energy supply? Ultimately, a greater variety of communication approaches is needed.
As part of the project, an intercultural training programme was established in Brazil – the International Summer University on the topic of climate change and renewable energies. This course taught and practised comprehensive skills for communicating sustainability. A central component of the summer university was the audiovisual implementation of thematic messages in the form of spots and short films. Participants in the summer university learned how to convey the topic of climate change and renewable energies through short films, from the conception of the films to their production.
To date, the Summer University has been successfully held in Germany and Chile. Expanding the concept to Brazil is a joint initiative of ECOMOVE International and the Kollegs für Management und Gestaltung nachhaltiger Entwicklung.
