Brazil is one of the most populous countries in the world and has the greatest economic potential in South America. In terms of sustainable development, Brazil therefore faces major challenges. Brazil’s future environmental policy tasks focus on protecting the tropical rainforest, establishing a sustainable energy supply, environmentally friendly raw material extraction, improving the urban environment, sustainable agriculture and protecting genetic resources. These are closely interlinked with social challenges, in particular poverty reduction.
Against this backdrop, ECOMOVE carried out a nationwide environmental education project in Brazil in 2009. At the heart of the project was a film series focusing on Brazil, consisting of 10 outstanding film and TV productions that shed light on various environmental and socio-political issues. The film series, complemented by a diverse supporting programme (such as film discussions, lectures, special screenings for schools and universities), was presented at numerous Goethe Institutes and other venues in Brazil.
