The Refugees in Motion project initiated integration initiatives in 12 cities/municipalities in Lower Saxony in 2018 and 2019. In each location, groups consisting of refugees and local young people expressed their ideas about integration and cultural diversity as part of a work camp. This was done in a wide variety of creative ways: music, video, photography, dance – anything was possible. The work camps were organised jointly by local project partners and ECOMOVE and run by professional musicians, (media) educators, cameramen, photographers, etc. An initial presentation of the groups’ results (music pieces, short films, photo exhibition) took place in March 2019.
The project arouses curiosity about the other culture and playfully channels this into various forms of expression. In this way, it aims to support both the integration of refugees and the local residents’ understanding of foreign cultures.
